Track & Field
Congratulations first to CHS girls and boys Track and Field team for
qualifying 16 athletes for the AHSAA state track meet. At the Section
3 meet held on April 23 and 24, CHS girls set 9 school records and
CHS boys set 7 school records. The girls placed 5th out of 16 varsity
teams while the boys placed 8th out of 16 varsity teams.
CHS meet MVPs were Katie Sheibley and Evan Pardi. Most improved
athletes were Natalie Hill and Evan Pardi.
Now onto State results: Katherine Abell placed 8th in the high jump at 4' 6", scoring in the state meet. Evan Pardi placed 5th in the 3200 at 10:51.5, setting a new school record, and he nearly equaled the 1600 school record. In the boys 4x100 Andrew Dunn, Christian Anderson, Brandon Laue and Will Craig qualified for the state finals. Due to their also qualifying for the soccer sub-state, they could not attend the finals; an alternate team of Brandon Laue, Stephen Leahy, Luke Viegas and Evan Pardi ran in the finals and placed 7th, thus scoring in the state meet. Recognizing that the competition at state is so tough that 21 teams did not score at all, CHS did score, with the varsity girls placing 26th out of 48 teams, and the varsity boys placing 19 out of 48 teams. CHS varsity girls and varsity boys teams are very young, with an overall average grade level of freshman, and only one senior, Katherine Abell. The season MVP was Katie Sheibley, who was ranked #1 in the state at sections and qualified for state in four events: pole vault, javelin, discus and high jump. However, due to injury, she was not able to attend state.
New school records set at state include: Captain Christen Greer 3200 (13:47.02) Girls 4 x 100 Alex Cronise, Natalie Hill, Erin Bouska and Sarah Swalley (57:28) Girls 4 x 400 Christen Greer, Suzanne Baltar, Erin Bouska and Natalie Hill (4:47.08) Girls 4 x 800 Christen Greer, Suzanne Baltar, Annie Lopez and Natalie Hill (11:45.54) CHS athletes who qualified for states but did not advance to finals include Sarah Swalley (100m), Alex Cronise (200M), Katherine Abell (triple jump and 100 m Hurdles), and Brandon Laue (300 m hurdles). Other CHS athletes who qualified for state but were not able to attend: Steven Sheibley (pole vault) due to injury and Raul Alonso, Jr. (4 x 400) due to conflict with sub-state soccer game. Three CHS athletes earned their varsity letters during the state meet: Stephen Leahy, Andrew Dunn and Will Craig. CHS meet MVPs were Katherine Abell and Evan Pardi. CHS meet most improved were Christen Greer and Evan Pardi.
